First Day of Summer Calls People to the Beach

Main Beach ready for the summer ahead.

Where else would you rather be on the first day of summer, but at the beach?

For many in East Hampton, that's exactly what they did. Main Beach in East Hampton, recently named the most beautiful beach in America, was littered with those soaking up the sun, and some who flocked to the ocean water.

The lifeguards were at their stations for the first time this season, and the snack shop was opened for business.

On the longest day of the year, the summer solstice brought with it blue skies.

"It's not as crowded as it normally is," Ed McDonald, the beach manager, said. "It's a little cooler than usual." Still, he said, "What a difference from what it was a month ago when the water was really cold."

How did you spend the first day I the summer?
