East Hampton's Shoreline Sweep Postponed Again to Still Snow-Covered Sand

East Hampton's Shoreline Sweep has been postponed an additional week, to Saturday, Feb. 22 at 9 a.m. due to the still snow-covered beaches. 

The location of the post-Sweep party — originally set for the American Legion in Amagansett — is still to be determined.

East Hampton’s ocean beaches, from Montauk Point to Wainscott, will soon get a thorough cleaning during Shoreline Sweep 2014, an inaugural event conceived by Dell Cullum and planned in cooperation with the Town of East Hampton's litter committee. The event will continue on Sunday, Feb. 23,  if necessary.

Those participating will meet at predetermined starting points along the route, where maps, bags, and gloves will be distributed. 

Volunteers will be asked to sort recyclables from trash, with a goal of gathering data on the types of debris found on area beaches. 

Group leaders, who will distribute supplies and tally the results, are also needed.

Donations of warm beverages for the volunteers will be gladly accepted.

The East Hampton Town Trustees will assist with the pick-up of collected trash, so volunteers need only to prepare themselves for a fun day with friends, family, and neighbors while helping to give East Hampton beaches a Shoreline Sweep.

"If you use or enjoy our beautiful beaches, please lend a hand in giving them a clean sweep," organizers said.
