Donations Needed for Columbus Day Wekeend Fireworks Show in Montauk

Montauk Chamber needs to raise about $4,000 for the October show.

After one of the most successful fireworks fundraising seasons in recent memory, the Montauk Chamber of Commerce has decided to move forward with its fall fireworks display.

Laraine Creegan, the executive director, asked for donations in a letter to members on Monday.

Last fall, a fireworks show was held on the Saturday of Columbus Day weekend. The Atlantic Terrace paid for the show, a total of $15,000.

"Months ago we surveyed our chamber members about this event and most of you felt this event was a very good draw to attract more visitors to Montauk on that weekend," Creegan said.

This year, the Atlantic Terrace will pay $5,000 toward the show if Montauk businesses donate $10,000. The show will be held on Oct. 12, during the annual Fall Festival.

So far, the chamber has raised $6,415, plus the $5,000 from the Atlantic Terrace, Creegan said. "The Chamber will pay for any other miscellaneous costs, such as advertising etc. and any shortfall," she said.

Meanwhile, the chamber almost reached its goal for the Fourth of July fireworks, "Stars Over Montauk," display. The total cost was $23,760, and it received $22,095.

To donate to the chamber, email laraine@montaukchamber.com as soon as possible. If you donate $200 or more you will be listed on the publicized sponsorship list to be published in the local newspaper.
