5 Things Happening Around East Hampton This Weekend

A hoedown, archeology festival and Maureen's Haven benefit all ahead this fall weekend.

Here are some events coming up this weekend. 

1. OPENING RECEPTION: "Paco and Friends," an exhibition that celebrates the life and art of painter and mask maker Francisco Sainz, opens Friday at Ashawagh Hall with a reception from 5 to 8 p.m. Artists — Susan Bradfield, Jennifer Cross, Monica Enders, Lily Kot, Teri Kennedy, Christine Newman, Maria Pessino, Gabriele Raacke and Athos Zacharias — will share their work inspired by him. 2. HOEDOWN & BALLROOM DANCE: Grab your dancing shoes, a Country Hoedown & Ballroom Benefit Dance is happening at the American Legion Post #419, 7 to 10 p.m., complete with Country Line and Texas Two Step lessons and ballroom showcases from the Arthur Murray Dance studio staff. A BBQ dinner will also be served. Proceeds benefit a non-profit wellness center.

3. ARCHAEOLOGY FESTIVAL: Taking place at the future site of the Montauk Indian Museum on Second House Road, the archeology festival will the "original locals," and include such activities as pottery, stone tool manufacture, and pit cooking. There will also be some short talks with archeologists and artists. Start time is 11 a.m.

4. MAUREEN'S HAVEN BENEFIT: An auction to support the East End homeless program will be held at Hoie Hall at St. Luke's Church from 4 to 6 p.m. Cider and pastries will be served.

5. YMCA HEROES SPOTLIGHT PARTY: The YMCA RECenter is recognizing some of its "heroes" with a big celebration at Gurney's Inn at 5:30 p.m. The YMCA Heroes recipients are Tom Cohill,Doug Mercer, Rosie Orlando,Laura Sisco. Be sure to buy your tickets now. Proceeds from this event will support our YMCA East Hampton RECenter youth programs, like the Y Hurricane Swim Team, East Hampton Schools' Learn to Swim Program, and much more.
