14-Year-Old Bicyclist Dies After Car Crash in East Hampton Village

A 14-year-old girl was hit by a vehicle while riding her bicycle in East Hampton Village and died from her injuries at the hospital on June 15.

Anna Mirabai Lytton was pinned under a Ford Explorer in the middle of Pantigo Road, which is part of Montauk Highway, at the intersection of Gay Lane, at about 1:25 p.m. Six to eight "Good Samaritans" helped to free her, police said.

The East Hampton Village Ambulance Association transported her to East Hampton Airport to meet a Medevac that flew her to Stony Brook University Medical Center. She died at the hospital, police said.

19-Year-Old Arrested in Springs Liquor Store Robbery

Less than 48 hours after a man made off with cash from a robbery at the Springs Wines & Liquors on Nov. 9, East Hampton Town police made an arrest.

East Hampton Town police said John X. Tracy III, 19, who lives on Kings Point Road in Springs, was charged with first-degree robbery, a felony.

Alec Baldwin Gives $1 Million To East Hampton Library

Just months after becoming a father for the second time, actor Alec Baldwin has donated $1 million on behalf of his family to the East Hampton Library for its new children's addition, currently under construction and scheduled for completion in spring 2014.

On a conference call on Nov. 11, Baldwin said libraries are "one of the great escapes of the world, and he said he hopes his donation will encourage others to help support the library as it heads into the final phase of the longtime project.

Arrest Made in Fatal Hit-and-Run Amagansett Accident

While police had no witnesses to the hit-and-run accident that killed a 61-year-old pedestrian in late October 2012, detectives cracked the case three and a half months later.

Edward L. Orr, a 30-year-old Montauk resident, was arrested on Feb. 7 in connection with the death of John Judge, East Hampton Town Police Detectives confirmed early on Feb. 8.

Missing Fisherman Found Alive After Floating for 12 Hours

John Aldridge, the fisherman who went missing off his lobster boat five miles off of Montauk Point, was found alive 12 hours after he went missing.

Petty Officer Jetta Disco, a Coast Guard spokesperson, said Aldridge was found 43 miles south of Montauk Point by a Coast Guard MH-60T Jayhawk helicopter rescue crew from Coast Guard Air Station Cape Cod.

Boat Accident Off North Carolina Kills Montauk Fisherman, 24

Donald Alversa, a 24-year-old Montauk man, died after a fishing accident aboard a dragger off the coast of North Carolina on Sept. 7.

He passed away at a Virginia hospital after he was injured and flown from the commercial fishing vessel, the "Jason & Danielle," based out of Montauk.

Coast Guard Petty Officer 1st Class Brandyn Hill, a spokesman out of the fifth district, said the Coast Guard received a request for a Medevac at about 8:30 p.m., from the 90-foot dragger, located about 45 miles northeast of Kill Devil Hills, N.C., on the Outer Banks.

Montauk's Panoramic Wrapped Up in $100 Million Ponzi Scheme, Feds Allege

Two men from Old Westbury were charged Aug. 1 as part of a nearly $100 million Ponzi scheme that involved funds to buy the Panoramic View Resort & Residences in Montauk, according to the US Attorney's office.

Dashiel Marder Reported Missing in Indonesia

Dashiel Marder, a 30-year-old Springs native and well known spear fishermen, went missing while diving in Indonesian waters in April. According to a statement from the Marder family, Dashiel Marder was in a remote area of Nihiwatu off the southwest coast of Solor in the East Nusa Tenggara.

Woman Found Dead in East Hampton Home

After two police officers tried to save a woman found dead inside her house in the Northwest Woods in East Hampton on Sept. 30, they were overcome by exposure to carbon monoxide.
