Mary Kathryn Wilkinson, known as Kay, died at the Westhampton Care Center on Dec. 29. She was 103.
She was born on Dec. 3, 1907 in Southampton. Raised there, she later attended State University of New York at Potsdam and later gained her Master's at Crane School of Music.
In 1936, she married John F. Wilkinson, and they raised four children in both the Bronx and Montauk. Later in life, she and her husband retired full-time to Montauk where she went on and worked 16 years as a part-time Montauk annex clerk for the Town of East Hampton. In addition, she devoted considerable time as both the organist and choir director at.
She is survived by three children: John Wilkinson of Montauk, Peter Wilkinson of Cape Coral, FL, and Bill Wilkinson, who lives in Montauk and is the East Hampton Town Supervisor. Her daughter Joan is deceased. Ten grandchildren and thirteen great grand children also survive.
A life-long champion of music and music education, in lieu of flowers, donations should be directed to St. Therese of Lisieux and earmarked for choir and music education.
A viewing is scheduled for Monday, Jan. 3 at , East Hampton between 2 and 4 p.m. and 7 and 9 p.m. A funeral will be held at St. Therese on Tuesday at 10 a.m. Internment will take place at the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Southampton.
