Remembering the Northeast Blackout on This Wednesday
Your guide to what's happening in the community.
We're halfway to the weekend, so while you might be thinking about the weekend, there's also a few things on the agenda for Wednesday.
— Here's a little walk down memory lane: Remember what happened on Aug. 14, 2003? Today is the 10th anniversary of that Northeast blackout. I remember it like it was yesterday — the power suddenly shut off at The East Hampton Star, where I was working as an intern during summer break. Where were you?
— Guild Hall in East Hampton presents Prokofiev’s "Peter and the Wolf" at 5 p.m. Admission is $16 for adults and $13 for kids. Before the show, at 4 p.m., Guild Hall will have a puppet-making workshop. For ages 5 and up $10.
— Drop kids off at the Amagansett for Library for "Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Dog Days."
— Join Guild Hall for a free documentary screening at 8 p.m. According to the filmmakers, "In this 1973 film, Warhol discusses his views on art, money and society while visiting the Old Masters Room in the Brooklyn Museum. The film also follows Warhol to The Factory and the Cannes Festival. All of his major works are shown, as well as clips from many of his most important films.
