High School Will Discuss Suicide Prevention Wednesday; Reactions to Chief's Retirement

Good morning, East Hampton. 

— East Hampton High School is hosting an "Evening of Healing and Dialogue" along Wednesday. The discussion is being offered in conjunction with the New York State Office of Mental Health to promote healing and awareness of suicide prevention. It will be held in the auditorium beginning at 6:30 p.m. 

— We all KNOW Eddie Ecker, but did you hear he is retiring? East Hampton Town Police Chief Edward V. Ecker Jr. recently gave notice after nearly 32 years with the department. He will retire at the end of December. No word yet on who will replace him as the top cop. In the meantime, leave your thoughts about his retirement in the comments on the story.

— Voters in the Sag Harbor School District approved the John Jermain Memorial Library budget for 2014 in the amount of $2.3 million on Tuesday. Did you vote?

— You've been warned: East Hampton Town police said to expect traffic delays this weekend in Springs, Amagansett and Montauk. The Hamptons Marathon and the MightyMan triathlons are being held on Saturday and Sunday. Seems like a lot to have two major sporting events like that on one weekend, no?
