Town Police Log: Two Arrested For Harassment

Police report construction equipment, jet ski and copper wire burglaries.

The following information was supplied by the East Hampton Town Police Department. A criminal charge is only an accusation and does not indicate guilt.

Johnny Acevedo, 27, of Montauk, was arrested on April 28 for harassment in the second degree.  The complainant reported a domestic incident during which she said Acevedo allegedly slapped and shoved her, causing her to be fearful, according to East Hampton Town Police. A civilian arrest form was filed and harassment charges were filed. Acevedo was placed into custody and transported to East Hampton Town police headquarters for processing.

Daniel Pinargote, 26, of East Hampton was arrested on April 25 after his ex-girlfriend stated she was allegedly involved in a physical altercation with the defendant in her driveway at Accabonac Road. She stated he was yelling at her in the driveway over an upcoming court date and that he punched her in the stomach and on her legs. When a witness tried to stop him, the two got involved in a physical altercation, as well. The defendant was located by East Hampton Town police officers at his residence and placed under arrest for harassment in the second degree. He was transported to police headquarters for processing and was held overnight to await arraignment.

Michael Roth, 25, of Wainscott was arrested on April 26 after an officer observed a suspicious vehicle parked on Montauk Highway at the intersection of Hedges Lane. The vehicle was occupied by two males: the defendant, who was sitting in the passenger seat of with the door open and the driver. Upon approaching the defendant a strong odor of marijuana emanated from his clothing. The officer asked the defendant to exit the vehicle and a strong odor of marijuana was isolated to the defendant’s clothing as he walked toward the front of the vehicle. The officer removed a clear zip lock bag containing a green leafy substance which field tested positive for the presence of marijuana, from the defendant’s jacket. Roth was placed under arrest and transported to police headquarters where he was processed and released on an appearance ticket.

 East Hampton Town Police reports indicate a number of items were stolen recently. On April 13, a black and yellow New Holland skid steer loader valued at $10,000, along with a white trailer worth approximately $5,000, were stolen from a Boatyard Road location, police said.

A jet ski valued at $8,000 and a trailer worth $2,000 were reported stolen on April 2 from a home on Shore Ridge Road in East Hampton.

And copper wire continues to hold allure: Trustees at The Art Barge on Napeague Meadow Road in Amagnasett reported on April 27 that 500 feet of copper plumbing pipe had been stolen from the basement. The suspect may have entered through a window or basement hatch door, police believe.

A similar theft was reported on Treasure Island Drive, where copper pipes were believed to have been stolen from an outdoor shower on April 8 or 9.

East Hampton Town Police Chief Ed Ecker said while such crimes always exist, the onset of warm weather brings a surge of individuals to the area resulting in a rash of offenses.
