Boards Deals in Real Estate Last Week

Town buys nearly four acres with the CPF; sells tiny parcel in East Hampton.

Last week, the East Hampton Town Board approved the purchase of two properties with the Community Preservation Fund, while selling a very small piece of property in East Hampton.

The board agreed to buy 3.7 acres next to the town-owned boat launching ramp in Montauk, for $1.6 million from the Bistrian Land Corp, as well as .24 acres of land on Three Mile Harbor Road from John and Winifred Dowling for $45,000.

Scott Wilson, the director of the land acquisition department, said the purchase of the land on Duryea Avenue in Montauk will "help to mitigate the burden on Lake Montauk." The property is one of the last areas with a nature shoreline, Wilson said, an includes intertidal marshland.

Supervisor Bill Wilkinson called it "an excellent acquisition for us to make sure that area stays less dense" especially given the sensitivity of the area.

Councilman Dominick Stanzione said it was "heartening to see the board take action in furtherance of CPF spending."

Commenting on the small parcel in East Hampton, Wilson said it is located next to open space at the headwaters of Three Mile Harbor and includes freshwater wetlands and woodland habitat.

No member of the public commented on the proposals during public hearings on Thursday night.

The town board also agreed to sell a very small parcel at 34 Blue Jay Way in East Hampton. Councilwoman Theresa Quigley said the property is extremely small at just .1 of an acre.

The adjoining residential neighbor Melanie Feliciano offered to buy the property for $5,000.

According to the resolution, Feliciano will "seek approvals for non-dwelling agricultural, or residential accessory, uses only on the property, subject to a contract to be approved by the Town Attorney."
