Sept. 12: South Fork Remembers

Various services commemorate 10th anniversary of 9/11.

The day after Sept. 11 is always a hard day. It's the day we pick up and keep going despite who we've lost and what has happened. Ten years have passed since 9/11. Ten "day afters" have come and gone. Yet, it doesn't seem to get easier. Just more solemn. The South Fork commemorated the day in several events.

1. Town of Southampton officials gathered at the new Southampton Fire Department substation to re-dedicate a piece of steel from the Twin Towers. Check out and on Southampton Patch.

2. The also has a piece of steel, which the department created a monument around in honor of the 343 firefighters who died on 9/11. It was in a small ceremony outside the firehouse on Sunday afternoon.

3. Members of the East Hampton clergy held an interfaith ceremony at the on Sunday afternoon. Some people got up and lit candles and said a few words during the service. Check back more on that later.

4. Six fire departments that serve areas of the Town of East Hampton at the memorial monument in East Hampton Village to remember the fallen.

5. Lastly, in Sag Harbor Village, people of different faiths walked with candles down to for a remembrance prayer.
