Montauk Brewing Opens its Doors

Craft brewery started by three East Hampton High School grads opened tasting room on South Erie Avenue on June 30.

Niko Krommydas, beer blogger for Long Island Pulse magazine, recently took a trip to the end of Long Island to feature local brewers at Montauk Brewing Company.

Situated on South Erie Avenue, the three-man operation recently opened the doors to its tasting room at the end of June, offering up its flagship - and as of now, its only offering - Driftwood Ale, an American-style extra special bitter that co-founder Vaughn Cutillo told Pulse is "just so easy to drink."

In addition to Cutillo, Montauk Brewing consists of Joe Sullivan and brewmaster Eric Moss, all three of whom graduated together.

Montauk Brewing joins as the only other craft brewery in the Hamptons, though across Long Island in the past couple of years, several have sprouted up and . Krommydas offered his own thoughts about the potential for not only Montauk, but craft brewing across Long Island as a whole.

"Montauk Brewing Company is an example of the potential for Long Island's continued expansion within beer," he said via email. "Does Long Island even possess definite boundaries? I discover a new hamlet every week. It just goes on forever. If each brewery produces quality product, there is enough room for everyone, and more."
