UPDATE: Lightning Strikes East Hampton House Monday Morning

Update, 11:50 a.m.: East Hampton Fire Department Chief Tom Bono said firefighter saved the house on Buckskill Road, after it caught fire from a lightning strike on Monday morning.

Bono said his department had to cut into the roof to reach the fire. Flames shot out of the roof, as oxygen fuels fire. "Not too bad of a fire, we put it out pretty quick," Bono said. "No one was hurt and we saved the house."

Lightning had also struck a tree next to the house, he said.

The department went back to headquarters at about 11:30 a.m.

Update, 10:53 a.m.: Flames were reported coming from the roof as firefighters vented the area believed to be struck by lightning.

Previously: Lightning reportedly struck a house in East Hampton during a severe thunderstorm on Monday morning.

The responded to a report of a structure fire at 207 Buckskill Road, between Blue Jay Way and Stephen Hands Path. At about 10:35 a.m., a caller reported that the house had been struck by lightning.
