LaRouche PAC Activists Stop in Wainscott

Wainscott got a visit on Thursday from activists with an organization looking for support to impeach President Obama.

Christopher Sare and Frank Mathis, organizers with LaRouche Political Action Committee, traveled from Bogata, NJ, to hand out political information and man a table with a poster of the president wearing a Hitler-like mustache on the sidewalk in front of the Wainscott Post Office on Montauk Highway.

Sare has been to the South Fork plenty of times before to reach voters and recruit members, usually setting up in front of the post offices in East Hampton and Bridgehampton, but this was his first time in Wainscott.

LaRouche, he said, has a database of post offices to set up in front of, usually chosing ones with good foot traffic. On Thursday, the two men were yelling across the parking lot and getting honks, and the occasional obscenities yelled at them, from drivers.

One of the handouts says "Obama Put On Notice: Offensive Military Force without Congressional Authorization Constitutes an Impeachable High Crime and Misdemeanor." Rep. Walter Jones, a Republican from North Carolina, introduced the resolution on March 7, and LaRouche supporters call on voters to ask for their congressman's support.

Sare's wife, Diane Sare, . The PAC has five congressional candidates in Massachusetts, where Mathis hails, New Jersey, Michigan, Washington and Texas.

The LaRouche movement includes political and cultural network promoting Lyndon LaRouche and his ideas, which originated in radical leftist student politics of the 1960s and has been rejuvenated in opposition of the Bush-Cheney administration and the Obama health care reform plan.

In 1988, LaRouche was convicted of conspiracy to commit mail fraud and tax code violations and sentenced to 15 years. He was released on parole in 1994.

His supporters want to restore the Glass-Steagall Act, a 1933 law that established the U.S. Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation, imposed banking reforms and limited commercial bank securities activities and affiliations between commercial banks and securities firms. Many provisions were repealed in 1999. LaRouche supporters believe it led to the banking collapse.

Sare, who has been a LaRouche activist for 24 years, said supporters are against the bailout plan that saved the banking and auto industries from collapse.

Sare said the response he received so far on Thursday was mixed. "Some are thoughtful. One guy told me he sees through Obama."

Soonafter, a driver rode by and shouted an obscenity.
