Gwyneth Paltrow Signs Cookbook, Talks About 9/11

The actress shared stories and signed copies of her cookbook, "My Father's Daughter," at BookHampton.

As Hurricane Irene sped towards the Hamptons, Gwyneth Paltrow, who has recently been credited with helping save a life on 9/11, signed copies of her cookbook and answered questions at 's East Hampton location.

Paltrow, who said she planned on riding out Hurricane Irene at her Amagansett home, arrived at BookHampton Friday to a standing-room-only crowd who waited in line for more than an hour to attend the free event.

But Paltrow's cookbook wasn't all attendees got to hear about. According to a recent issue of US Magazine, Lara Lundstorm Clarke, a woman who worked on the 77th floor of Tower 2 of the World Trade Center, was on her way to work when she jaywalked on 7th Avenue and bumped into the actress.

Paltrow addressed the story, saying that she clearly remembers the moment when Clarke crossed in front of her as she was turning the corner and quickly came to a stop. "I get the chills even thinking about it, " she said.

Clarke sent Paltrow a letter telling her that she credits her for saving her life that day.

"There are so many other people, I'm sure, that were brought together by that, but never able to communicate it to each other. It's just an incredible story, " she said.

Paltrow said her cookbook, My Father's Daughter: Delicious, Easy Recipes Celebrating Family and Togetherness was inspired by her father, Bruce Paltrow, who she began cooking with when she was 18.

"Every time I'm in the kitchen I miss my dad. I always feel him the most when I'm in there, " she said when asked by an audience member if she thinks about her dad when she cooks. Paltrow's father died from cancer at 58 years old in 2002.

Her cookbook contains 150 recipes. She said that the turkey burger recipe was her favorite, but in the summer time she likes to eat salads, like the grilled shrimp salad recipe she features.

She said her daughter, Apple, loves to bake and she cooks with her kids all the time.

"Glee" fans in attendance wanted to know if Paltrow would be making a comeback on the popular Fox show. She said she was not sure what the show planned, but that she would love to come back on the show.

Paltrow said coming up next for her is a new movie, "Contagion," about a deadly virus that spreads worldwide where she stars alongside Matt Damon, Jude Law, Kate Winslet, Laurence Fishburne and Marion Cotillard. The film is due out Sept. 9.

Proceeds of Paltrow's booksales for the evening were matched by BookHampton to benefit the , a nonprofit organization that feeds approximately 2,000 families per week according to BookHampton owner, Charline Spektor.
