Electrical Fires Break Out in Montauk

Firefighters respond to two calls in Montauk and one in Amagansett.

A fire broke out at 189 Fairview Avenue on Friday afternoon leaving the front of the house charred up by the flames.

A passerby called at 3:15 p.m. When an officer arrived, it appeared the fire was contained to the front of the house, according to a police report.

The arrived on scene a short time later and extinguished the blaze. No one was home at the time, and a dog was rescued and brought to ta neighbor's house. Kevin Mulligan is the homeowner, police said.

said the fire damaged the front of the house, including an interior wall, ceiling and attic. The cause is still undetermined, but it appears to be electrical.

Montauk firefighters also responded to a call on Old Montauk Highway on Sunday afternoon. Robert Burke reported that he lost partial power at his house and that when crews from the Long Island Power Authority arrived on scene to re-establish electricity, crews noticed a large power surge was sent to his house at about 12:25 p.m. Smoke followed from the garage.

The fire department extinguished a small electrical fire in the garage that Browne said was confined to the electrical panel.

Also on Sunday, there was what appeared to be an electrical fire at a house in Amagansett.
