This week, we welcome new blogger Jeffrey Friedman, the director of The Retreat, an East Hampton-based domestic violence advocacy group. We are so happy to have a member of such an important organization in our community blogging on the site. I'm sure you'll find his blogs informative and they will serve as a constant reminder that if you or someone you know is in need, The Retreat is just a phone call away.

In his first post, he wrote about overcoming the stereotypes of domestic violence. "For thousands of residents of Eastern Long Island, this other visage—shared equally by the very affluent, ‘working ’ middle class residents, and the many who live here in pockets of economic despair that crisscross the landscape—is the battered face struggling for survival amidst epic and escalating domestic violence, sexual abuse, dating violence, and family violence."
