Annual Montauk Parade Draws 35,000

Joan Lycke led the way through the crowd in the 49th annual Montauk Friends of Erin St. Patrick's Day Parade.

There wasn't a cloud in the sky for the 49th annual Montauk Friends of Erin St. Patrick's Day Parade on Sunday. An estimated 35,000 people turned out for the town's biggest celebration. Cars lined almost every street, out-of-towners poured off the trains, and people lined Main Street as far as the eye could see. After the two-hour parade was over, the celebration heated up in restaurants and bars in Montauk for what was surely a long afternoon and evening for police.
