10 Valentine's Books for Kids

Librarians recommend some stories of the heart for children.

's Alexandra Giambruno and Lisa Houston prepared a list of Valentine's children's books ahead of Valentine's Day 2012.

1. The Love-Me Bird by Joyce Dunbar - A Love-Me bird asks her friend, Shut-Eye the owl, for advice on how to attract another bird.

2. Cranberry Valentine by Wende and Harry Devlin - Maggie, her grandmother, and the sewing circle make Cranberryport a brighter place for Mr. Whiskers when they send him secret valentines.

3. Mouse's First Valentine by Lauren Thompson - Mouse watches his sister making a valentine and wonders what it is.

4. Miss Flora McFlimsey's Valentine by Mariana - Miss Flora McFlimsey makes and sends surprise cards to her friends for Valentine's Day, although her lazy cat Pookoo almost causes her plans to fail.

5. The Valentine Bears by Eve Bunting - Mrs. Bear plans a surprise Valentine's Day celebration for Mr. Bear despite their usual hibernating habits at that time of year.

9. Rotten Ralph’s Rotten Romance by Jack Gantos - Rotten Ralph dreads Petunia's secret valentine party, but Sarah dresses him up as Cupid and insists that Ralph be nice. Once again Ralph wreaks havoc and chaos reigns.

10. Be My Valentine by Rosemary Wells - Yoko and her friends are delighted when their teacher, Mrs. Jenkins, asks them to create spectacular valentines for everyone.
